Spring / Summer 2009 Update

Spring 2009 was kicked off with The Krewe of Larry’s Fat Tuesday party at Proud Larry’s. Rosamond, Jamie and guest singer Virginia Abraham kicked off the festivities with an acoustic performance during the happy hour crawfish boil. Later that evening Oxford horns Jeff Callaway (trombone), Alex McCormick (trumpet) and “Bear” (Tuba and Accordion ) joined the band for a special Mardi Gras performance by Rocket 88 that featured the band taking a break from their normal set list to cover New Orleans classic Mardi Gras covers . This was a great party, folks.

The start of February brought about a repeat appearance at the second annual 2 Days in the Life Beatles Tribute where the band played a late set on the last night of the show to a packed house at Proud Larry’s. The rest of Spring will feature return trips to our same old haunts (See our list of Shows on Jambase) along with a return trip to Coda Bar in Monroe , Louisiana. We will also be playing a debut show at Starkville, Mississippi’s Dave’s Dark Horse Tavern with our friends Live Donkey Show.

For Summer 2009, Rocket 88 will be playing a number of festivals in the area. On May 9th, we will be at the 38th Annual Cellular South Gumtree Arts Festival in Tupelo, Mississippi benefitting the Gumtree Museum of Art. Rosamond and Jamie will also play an acoustic set later that day at Water Valley, Mississippi’s Watermelon Festival.

On June 26, we will be at the North Mississippi Hill Country Picnic for the second year in a row in Potts Camp, Mississippi. In July, we will be at the Slugburger festival in Corinth, Mississippi. We will close out the summer with a trip to the east coast to play Savannah, GA (Date to be determined) and Home Team BBQ in Charleston, SC. That’s all for now folks. Thanks for supporting Rocket 88.
